good afternoon.i come from one of the most lovely and attractive areas of china, the pearl river delta of guangdong province and i'd love to say a few words about this area that is so dear to my heart.

guangdong province is a magically beautiful wonderland, with endless natural treasures. the lush and green mountains are inhabited by songbirds and exotic animals; the farm land is fertile and productive, providing all of its people with wonderfully nutritious grains and all the fruits they need to be healthy and strong. the pearl river meanders through the province and eventually comes to our beautiful seashore with crystal clear blue water, flourishing with all kinds of different fish and sea creatures. all these natural advantages help to boost the ever-expanding economy of guangdong and increase the welfare of its people.

guangdong is privileged to have such a beautiful landscape, with hundreds of historical sites and places of great interest to local people and foreigners alike. our capital city, guangzhou, is also known as "the city of flowers". everywhere you look you will see flourishing plants and blossoming flowers overflowing with vigor.

the people of guagdong are very friendly to visitors from anywhere. whoever you are and wherever you come from, guangdong people will greet you with the only language---guangdong dialect.

guangdong is also known as the chinese capital of delicious food. there is an old saying that "the only best delicacies are in guangdong.” food from this province is internationally famous. its variety of tastes, shapes and colors can satisfy even the most refined palette. i'm sure, the moment you seat yourself at a cantonese banquet, your appetite will naturally become keen and eager to taste all the numerous delicacies of the region.

here are but a few i will mention in passing: steamed fish in ginger sauce, seasoned chicken, drunken shrimp, dance fish balls, fried jellyfish, roast suckling pig or duck, braised crispy chicken or squab, shark fin soup, moon cakes, refreshments and desert, and so many more. my mouth is watering just at the sound of these wonderful dishes.

i would like you all to know that there is truly nowhere in the world i would rather live and i invite you all to come discover the hidden treasures of my hometown. i would be glad to serve as your personal guide.

The Meaning Of Honor

the word honor is often associated with admirable career success, brilliant academic achievement, great social contribution and high position.

when speaking of honor, one has images like yang li-wei, jackie chen or learned scholars like the honorable judges here. it is true that these people are worthy of admiration. but how about those who are around us, who contributes to the society in different ways, completing their everyday task with devotions but remain unknown? are they far from honor? should they only clap hands for the people on the stage? shouldn’t they also deserve respect from us? i don’t think so.

honor wears different coats to different eyes. i would like to take miss zhang, a primary school teacher, for example. she has been teaching english for more than 30 years. countless students have learnt the first english letter from her and become interested in this language because of her enlightenment. so many years have passed and miss zhang is still an ordinary primary school teacher without any prize, flowers or honorable titles but in my eyes she is the very person who deserve honor and respect. every time i stand on the winner’s box, i couldn’t help thinking of miss zhang. i owe my success in english and my gratitude to her.

just as alexander pope said: act well your part, there all honor lies. honor can be found in our every day life and belongs to you, to me and to every ordinary person.

我想说说我的一位小学老师，她姓张。教我的'时候，她已在讲台上站了30多年。年复一年，一批批学生从她那里受到英语启蒙，我就是那时喜欢上英语的。而多年过去，张老师还是一位普通的小学英语老师，没有大奖，没有称号，没有鲜花。但在我眼中，她是最值得得到尊重，得到荣誉的人。我每次在英语比赛中取得成绩，得到奖励，就会想起张老师，就想向张老师道一声谢谢，就想把荣誉归于张老师。

由此，我认为，荣誉也应该是一个朴实的字眼，是一束在平凡中闪烁的光辉，她应该属于每一个普普通通的人。
